Look, I really prefer an apple.
At his town hall meeting in Strasbourg today, President Obama was greeted by Inez from Heidelberg, who told him his name in Hungarian means “peach.”
“Peach?” Obama said. “Oh, OK. Well, how about that. I did not know that.”
The name “Barack” famously comes from a Semitic word for blessing. An online Hungarian language translator says that “barack” means “clout” in Hungarian, and “barak” translated means…field house.
Inez was also right, though — the word for peach in Hungarian is oszibarack. This is all according to that somewhat dodgy online translator — this blog has no actual knowledge of Hungarian.
