When Madonna says she’s going to do something, she does it. After making public her desire to adopt another child from Malawi, the Material Mom has reportedly flown to the African nation to set the process in motion.
The pop icon has already filed papers to acquire a sibling for Malawi-born David Banda, 3 (as well as biological children Lourdes Leon and Rocco Ritchie), reports Reuters. David is accompanying her on the trip, and his biological father says he’s been told to expect a visit from his son.
A girl named Mercy is reportedly the object of Her Madgesty’s maternal intentions. (Great — that should make up for all the Madonna-and-Jesus jokes since she split with her boy toy of that name.)
But will “morals” affect Madonna’s chances at adoption? Now that she’s a single mom juggling boyfriends, Malawi’s child welfare ministry has said it may not look as kindly on her parenting qualifications.
Still, we’re guessing that what Madonna wants, Madonna will get.
Spears: Single Mom?
Jamie Lynn Spears appeared with an engagement ring while she was still pregnant with daughter Maddie — but now she’s planning to stay a single mom, according to a tabloid report. The “Zoey 101” star hasn’t dumped baby-daddy Casey Aldridge, but apparently she isn’t eager to become his wife.
“The wedding’s off,” a source allegedly dished to OK! magazine. “They are still in love, living together and very happy, but they have no plans to get married. Jamie Lynn has everything she wants and feels no need for a ring and piece of paper.” (Can’t blame her, after watching how that worked out for Britney.)
“She and Casey have weathered a lot in their young relationship already and don’t need the pressure of making wedding plans,” the source added.
Maybe Jamie Lynn will end up being friends with Bristol Palin after all.
Natasha’s Legacy
Natasha Richardson’s gifts may never again appear on stage or screen, but the late actress left a legacy of one last life-saving gift. Her organs were donated to sick patients after she was taken off life support at a New York hospital, according to reports.
“She spent so much time fighting the stigma of AIDS; someone like that would naturally donate her organs,” a source told People magazine, explaining the family’s decision. “At least by donating her organs something good could come out of [the tragedy].”
So how is Natasha’s husband, Liam Neeson, coping with the incredible shock and grief of his loss?
“Liam is doing OK,” socialite Blaine Trump, a friend of the family, said of the recent widower. “It takes a while to absorb this. But he says the family needs to move forward. They will take it one step at a time.” Hopefully the prayers and wishes of thousands of fans will be some small comfort as they do.
Mama Mimi?
Apparently Madonna isn’t the only pop diva shopping for a baby girl. Mariah Carey is fitting out her new Hollywood home with a nursery decorated all in pink, reports the New York Daily News — but she’s not pregnant.
Mrs. Nick Cannon reportedly shelled out $200,000 on tot accessories, including a pink high chair and crib, for the $125 million mansion she’s buying, which is “45,000 square feet and looks like a European castle,” according to a source.
The songbird is said to have hired a designer and “requested an all-pink nursery. It’s going to be over the top!”
But while there’s no baby on board as yet, another insider reveals that “Mariah has tossed around the idea of adopting.” (A rep denied the story.)
Here’s a little free advice, Mimi: When the adoption officials ask why you want a daughter, don’t say it’s because she’ll match the color scheme.
