Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Thursday mocked CNN morning host Chris Cuomo for having low ratings, just seconds after Cuomo asked why Trump is always insulting everyone.
Trump was on CNN’s “New Day” on Thursday, answering questions about the disparaging remarks he made about his GOP rival Carly Fiorina and responding to Ben Carson, another candidate who questioned Trump’s religious faith.
“All I’m saying is that you are the front-runner,” Cuomo said. “You say that you’re going to be president of the United States. There is a manner of behavior that goes with that. I’m not saying be Mr. P.C., I’m not saying be Captain Gentility and let everybody beat you up, but the idea of returning a blow every time you receive one, you know that doesn’t work in any high level situation.”
“Well, I’m a believer; perhaps you’re not,” Trump replied. “Maybe that’s why your show isn’t doing as well as it should be, because you really have a better show than that.”
Cuomo’s show regularly trails its competitors at Fox News and MSNBC in total viewership and the coveted 25-54 demographic.
“Ah, see, that’s not nice,” Cuomo said. “That’s not nice. You’re attacking me for asking you a question. See, that’s my point. That’s not what the president does.”
Trump went on to say that he’s a “big-league” believer “in God, in the Bible” and that Carson was wrong to challenge his faith.
Carson, Fiorina and Trump are likely to appear on the same stage during CNN’s GOP presidential debate next Wednesday.
