Harvey Weinstein has been hit with new sexual assault charges, including predatory sexual assault and rape, for incidents against a third woman prosecutors believe he assaulted more than a decade ago, according to a statement Monday from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
The grand jury moved to indict the 66-year-old on criminal sexual act in the first degree for a forcible sexual act against a third woman in 2006.
Weinstein was also charged with two counts of predatory sexual assault. The Class A-II felony carries a minimum of 10 years and maximum life sentence for each charge.
“A Manhattan Grand Jury has now indicted Harvey Weinstein on some of the most serious sexual offenses that exist under New York’s penal law,” Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr. said in a statement. “This indictment is the result of the extraordinary courage exhibited by the survivors who have come forward.”
Vance also urged other victims to come forward.
The entertainment mogul was indicted in late May of rape in the first and third degrees, as well as a criminal sexual act in the first degree for forcible sexual acts against two women in 2013 and 2004. All of these charges are felonies.
Weinstein’s legal team has maintained he is innocent of all allegations, which were first reported last fall. More than a dozen women in the entertainment industry accused him of sexual harassment and assault. The New York attorney’s office opened an investigation into Weinstein later that year.
