Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., took aim at Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., criticizing him for making a joke about her Green New Deal proposal.
“That a sitting US Senator can say something lacking so much critical thinking + honesty is embarrassing to the institution. If you were a female candidate, maybe you’d be called “unlikeable,” “crazy,” or “uninformed.” But since you’re not, this inadequacy is accepted as normal,” Ocasio-Cortez said Monday on Twitter.

Ocasio-Cortez’s tweet came after Scott had compared the Green New Deal to a new proposal by presidential hopeful Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J.
“[T]he latest terrible idea to come out of the Democrats’ 2020 primary is a federal gun registry. If you want to buy a gun, @CoryBooker wants you to register with the federal government. This would be scary if Booker had any chance of becoming President,” Scott said on Twitter Monday.

“What’s next? Will we have to register sharp knives? Maybe @AOC will make us register every time we buy meat as part of her #GreenNewDeal. The Democrats are officially the @BernieSanders Party. They want America to be less prosperous and less free,” Scott said in another tweet.

Booker released a 14-point gun plan Monday which included a national gun registry and an assault weapons ban.
Scott’s joke on Twitter referenced a now-deleted frequently asked questions section of the Green New Deal posted online to Ocasio-Cortez’s page which included a call to “eliminate emissions from cows or air travel.”
After a top adviser initially suggested the GOP had fabricated it, Ocasio-Cortez claimed later the mistaken release was the result of “a staffer that had a really bad day at work.”
Update:
Scott responded Monday to Ocasio-Cortez’s attack saying she “doesn’t understand sarcasm.”
“That a sitting Congresswoman doesn’t understand sarcasm would be embarrassing to the institution if you hadn’t embarrassed yours to the point of irrelevance already. America rejects socialism and will continue to,” Scott said on Twitter.
