ABC News’ Jonathan Karl was first to break news of Melania Trump’s upcoming speech.
Karl reported he learned of the Trump campaign’s plan to deploy Melania Trump to Philadelphia during a conversation this weekend with Conway.
News that Melania Trump will campaign in Pennsylvania in the final days before the election comes after the GOP nominee announced in a recent interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos that his wife would deliver two or three major addresses before Nov. 8.
Stephanopoulos asked, “Does it make you want get out there yourself and help him out the final two weeks?”
“We will see,” Melania Trump responded. “I support him 100 percent, and I’m there for him every time he needs me. And — I might join him. We will see.”
The GOP nominee then appeared to catch his wife off guard and announced his campaign would put her to work in the days leading up to the election.
“And she’s actually going to make two or three speeches,”Donald Trump said.
“Oh?” Melania Trump laughed.
Stephanopoulos remarked, “Made some news right there.”
“She’s amazing when she speaks. She’s amazing. And it’s not what she does. I mean, she was very, very successful, but not as a public speaker. She’s an amazing public speaker, so — she’s agreed to do two or three speeches. And I think it’s going to be big speeches, important speeches,” Trump said.
Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump in Pennsylvania by nearly six points, according to a RealClearPolitics polling average.
Of the 47 most recent general election polls conducted in the Keystone State, Clinton is shown winning 43, Trump is shown leading in just two and they are tied in two.
