Sandoval withdraws name from Supreme Court consideration

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has withdrawn his name from consideration to be the next Supreme Court justice.

“Earlier today, I notified the White House that I do not wish to be considered at this time for possible nomination to the Supreme Court of the United States,” the Republican governor said in a release. “I have also spoken to Senators Reid, Heller and McConnell and expressed the same desire to them. The notion of being considered for a seat on the highest court in the land is beyond humbling and I am incredibly grateful to have been mentioned.”

According to a Wednesday report, the White House was vetting Sandoval to be the replacement for late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

Sandoval’s is the only name that has been floated so far, and it prompted Democrats to say Republicans would have less reason to deny Obama’s pick a hearing and a vote if that pick were a Republican.
