10 tons of fireworks seized at LA County business

PICO RIVERA, Calif. (AP) — Police have seized some 10 tons of illegal fireworks from a Los Angeles County metal shop business.

El Monte police said in a statement that detectives received a tip about illegal fireworks being sold at Thomas Brothers Tube Bending in nearby Pico Rivera.

They raided the building Thursday and seized the fireworks from a trailer and storage containers. Police say the estimated street value is at least $100,000.

Lt. Chris Williams says customers walked up to try to buy fireworks even as detectives were dismantling the operation.

The metal shop owner and an employee were arrested. Their names were not released and no one at the business could be reached for comment.
