Marco Rubio tipped his hat to Ted Cruz on Wednesday by saying Cruz is “the only true conservative left in the race.”
According to the St. Paul Pioneer-Press, Rubio used a conference call with Minnesota supporters to offer his praise for his Senate colleague, but stopped short of endorsing Cruz or John Kasich in the GOP primary against Donald Trump.

Rubio also criticized the national media for covering the presidential race so negatively.
“The media kind of just said, ‘Marco Rubio had a terrible night, and it looks like the strongest anti-Trump alternative is Ted Cruz,'” Rubio, acknowledging his poor performance in the March 1 primaries, said. Rubio was only able to win in Minnesota, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia before dropping out.
Rubio did note that the media treated him like a winner after his third-place finish in Iowa, adding that his campaign “benefited from that narrative, but in the end, we were hurt by it, too. That’s just the way it is.”
