Staff Writer Anthony Hennen talked with host Michael Koolidge about a hidden penalty in some states for student loan default: the suspension of driver’s and professional licenses.
In at least 21 states, anyone who defaults on their student debt can lose driving and working privileges. Defenders of the penalty say the threat of suspension brings in repayments that otherwise wouldn’t be received, but it makes a difficult financial situation even worse.
