A passenger died in a car crash in the Kingstowne area of Fairfax County, police said.
Diana Merediz, 71, of the Alexandria area, was a passenger in a 1994 Toyota Camry involved in the accident and died at the scene, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
At about 1:15 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a crash on Kingstowne Boulevard. Police said that a 25-year-old man was driving a 2011 Ford Mustang northbound, and a 77-year-old man driving the Camry in which Merediz was riding was headed south.
When the 77-year-old tried to turn left onto Kingstowne Village Parkway, the Mustang struck his car on the passenger’s side. Police are still investigating the crash and believe that speed was a factor in the crash but alcohol was not.
The 77-year-old driver was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, and the 25-year-old driver was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
