We’re praying for you, Chuck Grassley

Rocky Twyman, Washington’s favorite political prayer warrior, strikes again Thursday afternoon with a rally on the steps of the Capitol. The cause? Encouraging Sen. Chuck Grassley to apologize for calling President Obama “stupid” on Twitter.

Grassley had tweeted, in typically chaotic Grassley grammar, that he wasn’t outraged at the president’s attack on Supreme Court independence, “Bcause Am ppl r not stupid as this x prof of con law.” (Translated loosely to, “Because the American people are not as stupid as this ex-professor of constitutional law.”)

But is a tweet from noted Twitter bumbler Grassley worthy of a prayer rally? “It’s not perceived of as being insignificant,” Twyman insisted. “They’ve been talking about it so much on the news.” (True.)

“What I know is that in the black community, people were very upset,” he continued. “They thought it was really disrespectful.” Twyman has not met Grassley, but hears that he’s a “very cantankerous politician.”

This rally isn’t out of the ordinary for Twyman, a retired PR pro and activist, who previously organized public prayer sessions about Chelsea Clinton’s wedding gifts, reconciliation between the president and Rush Limbaugh, and lower gas prices.

Though this most recent rally is targeting a Republican, Obama and the Democrats don’t get off scott-free in Twyman’s world. “We see problems on both sides,” he said. In fact, Twyman is also praying for Obama to pay Dick Cheney a get-well visit after his heart transplant. “It’s the Christian thing to do,” he said.
