Two deaf rappers are set to make history with their halftime performance at this year’s Super Bowl.
The National Association of the Deaf arranged to have Sean Forbes and Warren Snipe, also referred to as “WaWa,” perform sign language interpretations of the songs performed by the headliners, according to the Detroit Free Press. This will be the first time in the 56 years of the Super Bowl that sign language will be incorporated into the performances.
“The doors to accessibility are busted wide open with something like this,” Forbes told the outlet.

“So this is very much a full-circle moment, being from Detroit, being part of the Eminem camp — or even going back to being 12 and listening to N.W.A., Dre, and Snoop on my Walkman,” Forbes added.
Forbes and Snipe will perform alongside rappers Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dog, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary Blige.
Snipe was also involved in last year’s Super Bowl, signing Jazmine Sullivan’s rendition of the national anthem and Eric Church’s performance of “America the Beautiful.” This year, actress Sandra Mae Frank will perform the national anthem and “America the Beautiful” in sign language, according to Variety.

“My goal is to get out there, show what we can do, and have fun,” Forbes said. “And, I want to open the door for other deaf performers.”
Tickets to this year’s Super Bowl between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles Rams are the most expensive recorded. As of Friday, a single ticket was recorded as costing roughly more than $9,648. The game is set for Sunday evening at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The Washington Examiner reached out to the National Association of the Deaf for a statement but did not receive a response.
