The outrageous tactics employed by some college protests have not gone unnoticed. Todd Starnes’ headline for Fox News reads: “College campus protests: This is the generation that will destroy America.”
Starnes points to various examples of what’s been going on at college campuses lately. He also mentions a recent poll from Pew which shows 40 percent of Millennials agreeing that the government should be able to ban speech that is offensive to minorities.
He also writes:
It seems the only free speech this perpetually offended generation supports is speech they agree with.
And it appears our nation’s public universities have become breeding grounds for such anti-American and un-Constitutional beliefs.
Further down in his piece Starnes also laments how “universities are now judging students on the color of their skin, instead of the content of their character.” Indeed, while a true civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. made such a call, college administrations seem not to be heeding it. With students at Missouri demanding more diverse faculty, and the hiring of an interim president who is black, it seems we are no longer operating as a meritocracy, in any way.
Starnes does place the blame on the adults though, as he asks, “oh, what have liberal educators unleased on our great nation?”
While students like to claim to be operating out of tolerance and sensitivity, they are rightfully “a generation of intolerance” as Starnes refers to them.
