The first of six people charged in connection with the smuggling and sale of heroin inside the Alexandria jail pleaded guilty Tuesday, as investigators sought to expand the investigation.
Alexandria inmate Camilo Gomez, 22, of Centreville, pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiracy to distribute heroin, procurement and secretion of heroin by a prisoner, and attempt to deliver heroin to a prisoner. Gomez was in the Alexandria Detention Center on federal charges last March when another inmate, Jesse Boner, gave him heroin that Boner’s girlfriends had mailed him, said Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Elliott Casey.
Later, Gomez’s girlfriend, Heidi Farrish, also mailed heroin to him in the jail, Casey said. Gomez sold some heroin to another unnamed inmate for $160. Alexandria police intercepted that shipment, however, and when the inmate complained, Gomez asked Farrish to deliver the drugs to the inmate’s family, who were planning a jail visit. On June 28, Farrish sold heroin to two Alexandria detectives posing as the inmate’s relatives, Casey said. Discovery of the drugs led to a review of jail procedures and changes in mail handling. Arlington deputies are performing the review, which is not complete.
