MSNBC host and former Republican congressman Joe Scarborough thinks Donald Trump’s controversial comments about Russian hackers this week are all about diverting attention from the Democratic National Convention.
In a blog post for the Washington Post, Scarborough said Wednesday night that Trump was only living up to his status as a “one trick pony” when, seemingly in jest, he called on Russian hackers to expose Hillary Clinton’s deleted emails.

“At least Richard Nixon’s men had the good taste to break into the Watergate under the cover of night,” Scarborough wrote. “With Trump, gaudy political shenanigans are to be performed under the brightest of klieg lights. The chaos subsequently created seems to focus on little more than dominating the next news cycle at any cost. Tonight, this one trick pony has taken us all for a ride again.”
During a press conference in Florida on Wednesday, the Republican nominee said that if Russian hackers have information on since-deleted emails from Clinton’s private email server, they should make them public.
“I think you’ll be rewarded mightily by our press,” said Trump, whose comments came just several days after Russian hackers were apparently behind a massive dump of private emails from the Democratic National Committee.
Trump has since said he was being “sarcastic” and was merely drawing more attention to his political opponent’s email controversy.
