Female journalists urge Trump to fire his campaign manager

More than a dozen female members of the media have joined forces to demand that Donald Trump fire his campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, who was recently charged with battering a female reporter.

In a press release drafted Wednesday, and first reported by Independent Journal Review, the women described Lewandowski’s treatment of former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields as “inexcusable and unprofessional” and urged Trump to “immediately remove Lewandowski from his campaign.”

“The Trump campaign has stated that Lewandowski will not be fired even if convicted, however unlike the Trump campaign, we believe in making a statement on the record to clearly highlight the difference between right and wrong,” the women wrote.

Trump has mocked Fields’ account of the incident since his news broke of his campaign manager’s arrest and suggested on Tuesday that he could pursue charges against her for allegedly grabbing him by the arm “at least twice.”

However, according to the women who’ve called for Lewandowski’s termination or resignation, Fields was simply doing her job as a reporter.

“Never in this line of work is it acceptable to respond to reasonable and legitimate questioning with use of physical force,” they wrote.

Among the women who signed the press release, are CNN contributor S.E. Cupp, American Enterprise Institute resident scholar Christina Hoff Sommers, conservative TV and radio personality Dana Loesch and Fox News contributors Meghan McCain and Katie Pavlich.

As recently as Wednesday morning, Trump said he would stand with Lewandowski, who is slated to appear in court on May 4.

“I can’t do that. Can’t do it,” Trump said of firing his campaign manager during a rally in Wisconsin on Tuesday.
