The parents of the late Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer killed in a tragic incident involving a prop gun fired by actor Alec Baldwin, are stuck in war-torn Ukraine, Halyna’s widower revealed Friday.
Matthew Hutchins, who shares a 9-year-old son with Halyna, said his parents-in-law are stuck in Kyiv due to Russian forces attacking areas designated as safe passage corridors, according to TMZ.

“Halyna’s family is trapped in Kyiv because of the danger of travel,” Hutchins told People. “Her mother continues to work in the hospital where she has been a nurse for over a decade because her country needs her but also because they cannot leave safely.”

A representative for Matthew Hutchins also said Halyna’s sister and 3-year-old niece are at the Romanian border where they are trying to be evacuated, according to TMZ.
Hutchins said he believes a no-fly zone over Ukraine needs to be established, and he is urging China to create one if NATO does not, according to the report. He also praised Ukrainians for their bravery and asked for more Ukrainian refugee support and military aid.
The family of Halyna Hutchins, who was killed in October 2021 on the New Mexico set of Rust, filed a lawsuit in February against Baldwin and the film crew. Matt Hutchins said on Feb. 25 it is “absurd” Baldwin believes he is not to blame for the shooting.

Baldwin’s legal team filed an arbitration demand on March 11 that alleges the actor did not play any role in the accidental loading of live rounds into his gun. The complaint sought to assign blame to the production assistants and staff.
