HBO making a new ‘Game Change’ mini-series about the 2016 election

The producers and director behind the Emmy-winning HBO adaption of “Game Change” are going to create a new mini-series based on the contentious presidential contest between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

A press release from HBO Films says the show will “chronicle the extraordinary events of the 2016 presidential election in a miniseries based on the upcoming book by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann.”

The book will be the third in the “Game Change” series, the first of which is about the 2008 election between Sen. John McCain and then-Sen. Barack Obama. The first HBO adaption, which aired in 2012, focused on the struggles of the vice presidential candidacy of Sarah Palin (played by Julianne Moore).

The first film’s director, Jay Roach, is making a return, as are producers Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman.

It isn’t clear yet what the release date is, and no announcements have been made as to who will portray Trump or Clinton.
