Former Vice President Joe Biden denied calling an Iowa man “fat” during an exchange with Democratic primary voters on Thursday.

Biden appeared to call an Iowa voter fat during a heated exchange with the man over the Democratic candidate’s son’s work in Ukraine. The man, who declined to give reporters his name but said was 86 years old and a registered independent, expressed concerns over Hunter Biden’s work in Ukraine for the energy company Burisma.

Biden seemed to say, “Look, fat,” before pausing to regather his thoughts. Biden’s campaign put out a statement later, asserting that Biden said, “Look, facts.” A reporter asked Biden directly later on Thursday, and he reiterated that he did not call the Iowa man fat.

The Democratic front-runner continued to criticize the voter for expressing concerns that Hunter Biden’s connection to Burisma had the appearance of corruption.

“You’re a damn liar, man. That’s not true. And no one has ever said that, no one has heard that,” Biden told the voter.

“And by the way, that’s why I’m not sedentary,” Biden said, in another apparent reference to the voter’s weight.
