CNN host and celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain was found dead in his hotel room in France on Friday, after apparently hanging himself, CNN reported Friday.
The network confirmed that he was found unresponsive in his hotel room by a close friend. Bourdain was in the process of filming an upcoming episode for his new seasons of “Parts Unknown,” which airs on CNN.
“We have some terribly sad news to report his morning — heathbreaking and devastating. Word renowned chef, best-selling author, award-winning host of ‘Parts Unknown,’ and our friend Anthony Bourdain has died,” a CNN host said in an on-air statement.
Bourdain was a champion of the #MeToo movement, and his girlfriend, Asia Argento, is a Harvey Weinstein accuser. The chef has said the movement has caused him to “re-examine my life.”
Bourdain’s suicide comes just days after designer Kate Spade took her own life.
