Free safety Oshiomogho Atogwe did not practice for a third straight day because of a knee injury and is questionable for Sunday’s game vs. Carolina.
However, it’s difficult to imagine Atogwe playing after missing so much time. Reed Doughty is expected to start ahead of him with rookie DeJon Gomes able to back up Doughty and strong safety LaRon Landry. The Redskins use both safeties in various ways, making part of what they do interchangeable.
Doughty is not considered a fast safety, but Atogwe has not played with a lot of speed this season either.
Also, corner Phillip Buchanon (neck/knee) and receiver Donte Stallworth (hamstring) are questionable as well. Both practiced, however. With Anthony Armstrong able to play Sunday, Stallworth might be inactive anyway. Buchanon’s return is crucial with corner Byron Westbrook out with a hamstring injury.
The Redskins could also make a move and promote practice squader Brandyn Thompson if they need another defensive back for Sunday.
For Carolina, linebacker Omar Gaither (knee) and safety Jordan Pugh (head) are doubtful.
