It would be easy to dismiss the annual March for Life taking place each January in Washington, D.C. After all, there is barely any news coverage of the central event. Though the country as a whole is sharply and somewhat evenly divided on the issue of abortion, many major media outlets look away. In the U.S., abortion is a “right” and those who oppose the legally-protected killing of the unborn remain largely ignored.
Despite this, the facts and actual figures are on the side of those who value the inherent worth of each individual, as made evident by Planned Parenthood’s newly released annual report. The statistics for the their 2017-2018 year have the strange distinction of being both horrifying and expected. Taxpayer-funded Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion provider and their numbers prove it.
In the past year, the abortions at Planned Parenthood clinics nationwide totaled 332,757. This is an increase over last year’s total of 321,384. Annually, the abortion giant counts the destruction of more than 320,000 unborn individuals as proof that reproductive rights are alive and well for women in the U.S. Yet, this yearly measurement only indicates that what abortion advocates label as progress is nothing more than barbaric regression. Each year, the number of unborn dead grows.
Sharply contrasting with the number of aborted lives is the minuscule figure that represents how many were most likely saved through the process of adoption. During an entire calendar year, Planned Parenthood referred only 2,831 clients to life-affirming adoption agencies. This is but a small victory, but a victory nonetheless, given the pressure faced by women who enter any of these clinics. Choosing life for the child in their womb is an extremely rare conclusion to reach.
Alongside the facts in the report are the usual lies promoted by Planned Parenthood leadership. Current president Dr. Leana Wen is no different than her predecessor, former president Cecile Richards. Wen indicates the following at the beginning of the report.
Not only is abortion the opposite of health or care, but the idea that through the destruction of another a “more equitable world” will be built is as dishonest as one can get. Violently snatching the freedoms away from another individual is not how one builds community and equality. This lie has long been promulgated by modern-day feminists as a cornerstone of their fight. It has been a blatant falsehood as long as it has been uttered.
In addition, Wen herself recently admitted the real mission of this supposed women’s health organization in a tweet.
First, our core mission is providing, protecting and expanding access to abortion and reproductive health care. We will never back down from that fight – it’s a fundamental human right and women’s lives are at stake.

Health? Education? Care? No matter what claims are made, none of these tops the list of priorities. What really drives Planned Parenthood has and always will be the taking of growing, unborn, human life through abortion.
In one year’s time, Planned Parenthood’s next annual report will be out. Contained within will be the same tragic numbers and the same untruth: that abortion is a right and that we as women are better off because of it.
