Security guard killed in Oakland riots identified as 53-year-old black man: Report

The security officer killed at a federal building during riots in Oakland, California, on Friday has been identified, according to a new report.

Patrick Underwood, 53, was killed when rioters stormed the Ronald V. Dellums Federal Building on Friday evening, his family told Fox News.

Underwood worked for Homeland Security’s Federal Protective Service and was struck by gunfire. A second security officer remains in critical condition.

“When someone targets a police officer or a police station with an intention to do harm and intimidate — that is an act of domestic terrorism,” said DHS Director Ken Cuccinelli over the weekend. “There are currently threats by some to attack police stations and federal buildings. That violence not only won’t be tolerated, we are also committed to ensuring that it won’t succeed anywhere.”

Angela Underwood Jacobs, Patrick’s sister, posted about her brother’s death on Facebook.

“My brother, Dave Patrick Underwood, a federal officer, was murdered 5/29/20 in Oakland California, while on duty during the riots,” she said. “This Violence Must Stop.”
