The super PAC supporting former Florida governor Jeb Bush for president told the New York Times that it plans on using its resources to hit Florida senator Marco Rubio over his pro-life record as well as missed votes in the Senate. The Times reported Tuesday that Right to Rise, which has raised more than $100 million and cannot directly consult with the Bush campaign, has already filmed a video that casts Rubio, once a political protege of Bush, as too extreme on abortion.
But one wealthy Bush supporter was quoted in the Times as being opposed to the idea of going after Rubio. “At the end of the day, wisdom dictates that an internecine fight between the two is unnecessary, and potentially damaging to both,” said Anthony Scaramucci, a fundraiser for Bush.
Scaramucci continued making the case against attacking Rubio Tuesday on Fox Business ahead of the network’s Republican presidential debate, saying that doing so would give Democrats like Hillary Clinton fodder for a general election.
“I don’t want to sound like the Dos Equis guys, but stay classy, fellas,” Scaramucci said. “Stay classy, because at the end of the day, if you don’t stay classy, what’s going to end up happening is all of these words are going to end up biting you. Hillary Clinton’s going to use it.”
