Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are folding their comedy shows into one for this Saturday’s “Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear” on the National Mall, which, of course, takes planning.
“We’ve been e-mailing back and forth furiously all the time and meeting with them whenever we can, which is tough because we’re both running two shows simultaneously,” “Daily Show” executive producer Josh Lieb explained. But, he also revealed a large chunk of the rally could go unscripted.
In the middle of the planning process, the “Daily Show” people and the “Colbert Report” people decided to not plan anything.
“The idea was that we would do this stuff and we would surprise the audience, but then we realized then we wouldn’t get to have any fun,” Lieb told Yeas & Nays. “We’re just going to surprise ourselves, anything can happen,” he added without giving us more details.
And he could be serious. So far, the only information available is a rough timetable for the rally, noting that Sheryl Crow, the Roots and Sam Waterston are among the guests.
