A planned summer concert for veterans that was dropped by Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh will now feature singer Kid Rock, planners told the Washington Examiner.

Walsh backed out of the concert because he believed it was part of the Republican National Convention. The concert is scheduled for Sunday, July 17 in Cleveland, and the Republican convention is scheduled from July 18-21.

“It was my understanding that I was playing a concert which was a nonpartisan event to benefit the families of American veterans on Monday, July 18 in Cleveland,” Walsh said in a statement earlier this month. “Today it was announced that this event is, in fact, a launch for the Republican National Convention.”

According to event planners, the concert is not directly affiliated with the RNC and is not part of the convention launch. The planners of the Cleveland concert will hold a similar event near the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

The concerts will support several nonprofit veterans organizations that are legally barred from supporting any political activity.

In 2012, Kid Rock endorsed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and played at Romney campaign events, including the GOP convention.
