THE DAILY OUTRAGE: First-class flying for Congress

WHO: Members of Congress

WHAT: Tax-paid junketing around the world is rapidly increasing.

WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: Many members of Congress are frequent fliers around the world at taxpayer expense. The Wall Street Journal recently reported that House members alone last year spent an estimated 3,000 days overseas on junkets. That compares with only 550 days in 1995. And nobody knows the true cost because Congress hides it in appropriations for other items.

WHERE TO VENT: Call your congressman and senators, and ask them how many tax-paid junkets they’ve taken this year. Don’t know who is your congressman? Go to house.gov and look in the upper left-hand corner. Don’t know who are your state’s two senators? Go to senate.gov and look in the upper right-hand corner.
