RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama is set to make campaign stops in Virginia Friday.

Officials say the first lady is scheduled to appear at Main Street Arena in Charlottesville Friday afternoon. She also is set to speak at Goolrick Hall at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg Friday evening. Tickets are being distributed on a first come, first serve basis at the Organizing for America offices in both cities Wednesday.

The first lady is making the trip into the battleground state where polls show President Barack Obama with a slight lead over Republican nominee-apparent Mitt Romney.

The president barnstormed Virginia last weekend. He’s trying for a strategically critical encore of his 2008 Virginia victory, the first by a Democratic presidential candidate in the state since Lyndon Johnson in 1964.
