Sharpton to attend Sessions confirmation hearing

One of the most prominent civil rights leaders will be attending the first day of confirmation hearings for Sen. Jeff Sessions.

Reverend Al Sharpton, the founder and president of the National Action Network, will attend the Alabama Republican’s first day of hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.

Sharpton had previously said that if Sessions were confirmed to be the next attorney general, it will “be a nightmare that the United States can’t wake up from.”

According to a press release, Sharpton will be with other civil rights leaders to “protest the hearings and demand that elected officials reject [Sessions’] nomination.”

Following the Tuesday hearing, Sharpton is set to meet with the Congressional Black Caucus and Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
