Is the cat burglar a nerd?

A man, for some reason, broke into the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) building in Washington, D.C., around noon on Monday by scaling the exterior and smashing a window to enter.

A spokesman with the Federal Protective Service said authorities are still investigating how the unidentified man was able to break in to the federal facility.

Officials said they received a call from 2 Massachusetts Ave. NE shortly after noon. Staff reported the discovery of a wounded man lying on the floor of an office beside a broken window.

The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment, but has not been arrested as of 5:30 p.m.

The BLS is a component of the Labor Department and is responsible for compiling statistical data on the economy, employment and cost of living. Republicans have criticized the bureau in recent years, alleging its reports, which show unemployment has decreased since President Obama took office in 2009, overstate reality.
