Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-S.C., slammed a Democratic lawmaker Wednesday morning for hijacking a House Homeland Security Committee hearing about protecting the U.S. from terrorist attacks and turning it into a conversation about gun control.
“The ranking member injected gun control into this because that is the narrative of the Left,” Duncan said at the start of a five-minute soliloquy, reacting to comments by Rep. Brian Higgins, D-N.Y.
Duncan talked about the case of Ahmed Mohamed, the 14-year-old boy who was arrested for bringing a home-made clock to school that a teacher believed was a fake bomb, which kicked off a national conversation about profiling. President Obama later invited Mohamed to the White House.
“We’ll continue to invite somebody who made something that looked like a bomb brought it to school, now it’s a ‘clock’ and we invite him to the White House. It’s a good thing the guy in New Jersey didn’t say, oh that’s just a clock,” Duncan said.
