President Trump said Tuesday he will name his nominee for the Supreme Court next week.
“Sometime next week I’ll be making my decision,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “We will pick a truly great Supreme Court justice.”
Trump previously said he would name a replacement within a couple of weeks after his inauguration.
Trump’s list of potential nominees was whittled down to “probably three or four” people last month, and Trump has met with some of his potential picks in the meantime, including Eleventh Circuit Judge William Pryor. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Neil Gorsuch has also emerged as a leading contender, with speculation swirling about his stock rising in recent days.
