Republican front-runner Donald Trump got a big energy endorsement from shale oil tycoon Harold Hamm on Friday.
Hamm, who was Mitt Romney’s 2012 energy policy adviser, called Trump the “business leader’s candidate,” underscoring the New Yorker’s background as a real estate mogul.
Trump is not “beholden to special interests and has the fortitude to make tough decisions,” according to a letter written by Hamm obtained by the Wall Street Journal. “Donald Trump is not my last choice, he is the best choice and I am proud to announce my support today,” he said in the letter.
Hamm is CEO of independent Oklahoma oil company Continental Resources Inc., which is heavily involved in drilling activities using hydraulic fracturing, or fracking.
