GOP healthcare advertising blitz bucks up endangered members

House Republicans are getting air cover in the battle to repeal and replace Obamacare from a political nonprofit organization aligned with House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis.

American Action Network has expanded its ongoing television ad campaign in support of the GOP healthcare bill, the American Health Care Act, into 15 districts. Many of the seats targeted in this round of advertising could be competitive in the 2018 midterm elections.

The $1.5 million advertising blitz comes as Republicans are struggling to forge consensus on the AHCA and weather criticism of the bill from the right and left. That critique is likely to intensify over reaction to the problematic score of the bill by the Congressional Budget Office.

The American Action Network has now spent more than $10 million this year promoting the Republican effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, former President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law.

The districts targeted in this round of advertising are held by Ryan; Reps. Jeff Denham; David Valadao and Darrell Issa of California; House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California; Rep. Mike Coffman of Colorado; Rep. Carlos Curbelo of Florida; Reps. Rod Blum and David Young of Iowa; Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska; House Energy and Commerce Chairman Greg Walden of Oregon; Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania; House Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady and Rep. Will Hurd, both of Texas; and Rep. Barbara Comstock of Virginia.

The following is the script of the latest ad, which is also running nationally on cable television:

Republicans are keeping their promise with a new plan for better healthcare,

More choices and lowers costs.

Putting doctors and patients in charge again.

No more big government penalties or job-killing mandates.

New tax credits to make insurance cheaper.

And real protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

Thank [Member of Congress] for keeping [his/her] promise,

And replacing the Affordable Care Act with the better healthcare you deserve.
