Everybody must get Stoned
Anyone listening in on filmmaker Oliver Stone’s conference call with reporters on Monday morning could have been forgiven for forgetting that Stone actually opposes President Bush.
Here’s a sampling of what the director of “W” had to say about the 43rd president, as he spoke from a press tour in Paris:
» “He’s one of the bigger stories of the last 30 or 40 years. Bigger than Reagan, bigger than Nixon.”
» “People are going to talk about this president the way they talk about Washington, the way they talk about Lincoln.”
» “He’s the grandson of Nixon and the son of Reagan.”
But don’t look for more room on Mount Rushmore just yet. Just because you’re consequential, noted Stone, doesn’t mean you’re great. He then accused the entire Bush family of lacking “any sense of introspection.”
Still, he put out an offer to Bush, his dad and his brother: “If they’d like to screen the movie, I’d be happy to go somewhere to do it.”
