Redskins in middle of roster revamp

Releasing Clinton Portis won’t be the Redskins only move. The question is when does the next round of cuts — or trades — occur? If they don’t make any more by Friday then they can’t make any until the lockout is over.

But here are players — not named Donovan McNabb or Albert Haynesworth — Washington could cut, if it wants to save cash (and get younger):

Casey Rabach ($3 million) » The Redskins have two guards who are better suited for center in Kory Lichtensteiger and Will Montgomery, which would soften the blow. The other linemen, though, rave about Rabach’s intangibles.

Ma’ake Kemoeatu ($2.5 million) » He struggled the entire season, partially because he was recovering from an Achilles tear the previous season. But he lacks the athleticism Washington needs in the middle. Even if he’s healthy, it’s hard to see him providing much help. Anthony Bryant was better.

Derrick Dockery ($1.6 million) » He doesn’t fit into this scheme, so why keep him?
