North Carolina rescue volunteers accepting donations for pets displaced by Florence

Peak Lab Rescue in North Carolina said Monday it is accepting donations for animals displaced by Tropical Storm Florence.

The nonprofit group said in a Facebook post that it would be accepting the donations at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds and also said it needs volunteers.

An unknown numbers of pets were displaced or left behind by their owners when Florence, which was a Category 4 hurricane and later demoted, made landfall late last week.

Residents have been reminded to bring their pets with them or make sure they are safe from flood waters and high wind speeds.

President Trump re-posted a U.S. Coast Guard tweet about keeping pets safe from flooding and the service’s work rescuing 10 beagles from a flooding kennel in Columbus County, N.C.
