AP: Venezuelan investigators “making progress” in Ramos case

Still not much new information in the search for kidnapped Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos early Friday morning. Family and friends who are at the house of Ramos’ mother say – along with Venezuelan law enforcement authorities – are tweeting within the last hour that the kidnappers still haven’t made contact to demand a ransom. It has been about 40 hours now since Ramos’ abduction on Wednesday evening around 7 p.m. Sources tell the Examiner he was taken by three armed men.

However, the government is sparing no effort, according to the Associated Press, to find Ramos and officials are confident they can do so quickly. Here’s the AP’s brief write-up:

CARACAS, Venezuela — Venezuelan authorities say they’re confident they can quickly solve the kidnapping of Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos.

Deputy Justice Minister Edwin Rojas says investigators are making progress in gathering evidence and have physical descriptions of his abductors based on the accounts of relatives.

Rojas tells state television that President Hugo Chavez’s government “is working 24 hours a day to solve this case.”

Armed men seized Ramos Wednesday outside his home in the Venezuelan city of Valencia.

The authorities said Thursday that they had found a stolen SUV used by the kidnappers abandoned in a nearby town.
