Ivanka Trump: My dad would be inspired by Africa

Ivanka Trump, who visited Ethiopia and Ivory Coast this week, said she hopes her father will visit Africa in the future.

“I’ve been deeply, deeply inspired by my trip here. And I think he will be as well,” said Trump of her father, who has reportedly made disparaging comments about African countries.

The president faced backlash last year when it was leaked that he called Haiti and African nations “shithole countries” during a meeting with a bipartisan group of lawmakers in January 2018.

Ivanka Trump indicated that the administration should be judged by its actions instead of what her father has said. She spent four days on the continent to promote women’s economic empowerment.

“Our commitment to Africa is clear,” she said Wednesday, according to the Associated Press, pointing to her trip as well as first lady Melania Trump’s visit last year.

The first lady visited Ghana, Malawi, Kenya, and Egypt in October.
