Virginia residents who want to make sure their family and friends know their health care wishes should they become incapacitated can now do so online for free. State officials on Wednesday announced the Advance Health Care Directive Registry, which they say will securely store important documents — such as an advanced health care directive, power of attorney and organ donor information — to protect legal rights and ensure medical wishes are honored. The information can only be accessed by medical providers, emergency responders, family members and other people authorized by the registrant. Go to www.virginiaregistry.com.
