Doorbell camera catches mother giving birth on front lawn

A California mother gave birth on her front lawn after she suddenly went into labor, and the family’s Ring doorbell camera caught the entire event.

Emily Johnson, 31, of Vacaville, California, gave birth to her second child after a 30-minute labor on Nov. 4. Johnson expected the labor to last much longer, given that her first labor took 18 hours. She tried to make it to the car to drive to the hospital but resorted to laying down in the front yard after realizing the baby was coming too quickly. The baby boy arrived two minutes after paramedics made it to the scene.

“I was standing in the car doorway just leaning on the passenger seat. I realized, I’m like — No, we’re not going to make it,” Johnson told local news. “I just laid down on the grass.”

Johnson’s husband and mother assisted with the labor until medics came. While in the hospital afterward, her husband noticed that the doorbell camera recorded the birth. They posted the video to Facebook, where it caught media attention.

The family reunited with the paramedics earlier this week.

“As chaotic as it seemed, it was probably one of the smoother ones I’ve seen in my career,” one of the medics said. “So everything just happened very naturally.”

Johnson said that baby Thomas is “a chill little dude.”

“We’re hoping that all the chaos, he got it out on the first night,” she said. “And we’ll just have a nice little easy go with him after that.”

Representatives for Ring did not respond to the Washington Examiner‘s request for comment.
