Arizona man charged with assault in-flight to BWI

Bryan Leon Spann, 34, of Marristown, Ariz., was charged Thursday with assaulting two flight attendants while in the air traveling to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

Spann, a passenger on America West Flight 81 traveling from Phoenix to BWI, became loud, belligerent and combative during the March 10 flight, according to prosecutors.

A member of the flight crew attempted to calm Spann, but he struck the crew member in the right eye with a closed fist and also struck another crew member, prosecutors said. Spann faces a maximum sentence of six months in prison and a $5,000 fine for each offense.
