Dan Coats to testify before Senate intelligence panel in closed-session: Report

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats will testify in a closed setting before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday, according to a report.

Coats told lawmakers last week during an open hearing that he would not discuss a reported conversation he had with President Trump in a public setting, but would be willing to do so in a closing hearing.

During the alleged conversation, reported by the Washington Post, Trump requested that Coats ask then-FBI Director James Comey to halt his investigation into former national security adviser Mike Flynn.

NBC News reported Coats’ planned testimony about an hour after the Washington Post reported that special counsel Robert Mueller expanded the federal Russian probe to look into whether Trump committed obstruction of justice.
