Clinton camp: ‘No question’ women will be on VP list

A top aide to the Hillary Clinton campaign said his candidate is open to an all-female ticket heading into the Democratic National Convention.

Clinton wants “the best person to make the case to the American people,” her campaign chairman, John Podesta, told the Boston Globe in an interview published Thursday.

“We’ll start with a broad list and then begin to narrow it. But there is no question that there will be women on that list,” he said of the process of picking Clinton’s running mate. Podesta added that staffers are still focused on the primary and beating rival Bernie Sanders.

It’s unclear who might make the list, though Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren may be one of the women Clinton may consider. Warren was encouraged to launch her own campaign, and she is the only female Democratic senator that hasn’t formally endorsed Clinton’s bid for president.

An all-female presidential ticket would be an historic first in a United States presidential election, as Clinton is vying to be the nation’s first female president.
