D.C.’s Twitter obsession largely ignored

Sorry Washington, but all those really important tweets reporters, politicians, lobbyists and issue advocates spew out daily on Twitter are mostly being ignored by the rest of the world.

Pew Research Center reveals in a new social media survey that just 13% of adults use Twitter or read Twitter messages. Worse: “Twitter barely registers as a news source. Just three percent say they regularly get news on Twitter,” said Pew.

But those who do use Twitter want to follow news and events and even reporters. “More Twitter users follow news on the site than use it to share news,” said Pew. Plus, “more than a third of those with Twitter accounts use them to follow news organizations or journalists.”
