SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — A brush fire that broke out in an open field in San Bernardino County has been quickly contained despite hot, dry weather.

San Bernardino County Fire Chief Mark Hartwig says the fire was reported at 1:14 p.m. Friday in the unincorporated community of Devore and reached five acres before firefighters were able to contain it.

Hartwig says some nearby homes were evacuated but no damage to the homes was reported.

Television news reports show damage to a backyard shed and several vehicles.
