A federal program that would send all fingerprint information from San Francisco County Jail to immigration officials will not start today as previously announced, but that doesn’t necessarily mean any of the protesting has had an effect.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement told Bay City News on Monday that the Secure Communities program will not kick off until June 8. The program has generated some serious opposition from Sheriff Michael Hennessey and city progressives who even held up a Police Commission appointment over the issue.
