Foursquare gets Creepy, adds “Keep Tabs on your Friends” Feature

Foursquare released new notification features Tuesday that will allow users to keep tabs on their friends with their new “always on” feature. Under the new settings, users can choose to click “always” follow their friends and family whenever and wherever they check in.

The social website, designed to keep tabs on users’ locations, offers rewards and prizes when they “check-in” multiple times at different locations. You can also become the, “mayor” of a location once you check-in there a certain number of times which can get you a free parking spot.

But now, you can not only view the locations where your friends are checking-in, you can recieve constant updates tracking the locations of any of your friends and family that you select.

“Have friends or family that live in another city, state, or country? Now you can choose to receive notifications when they check in, even if they’re not nearby or you have all check-in notifications turned off,” Foursquare wrote on their blog. “Friends visiting Iceland for a week? Easily keep up with their glacier-climbing, fermented-shark eating adventures.”

If you didn’t think Facebook and Twitter were enough of a violation to your privacy, now even your location could be broadcast all over the internet.
