Rand Says He’ll Outlast ‘Clown’ Trump

It’s hard to keep track these days of who is calling his opponents a clown these days. But, Donald Trump’s not the only one to throw the term around.

During CNN’s New Day on Monday, Rand Paul had a message for those who’ve picked him to be among the candidates to next drop out of the race. He also addressed Trump’s insults:

It kind of reminds me of the funniest moment, I think, of the second debate, when out of nowhere, complete non sequitur, he starts going after me. And I guess it’s part of his bravado, his shtick. But I’ll tell you this, I think we’ll be around just as long as Trump, or longer.

Trump had insulted Paul early on in the second debate, and even pointed out that he should not have been there, on account of his low poll numbers.

When asked what he was thinking at that moment, Paul had a message for those who have taken the front-runner seriously:

I’m thinking, how did we get the race for the most important office in the free world to sink to such depths, and how could anyone in my party think that this clown is fit to be president?

So I think really ultimately we’re going to get to the truth, ultimately we’re going to get to substance, it just takes a while. But by no means am I finished. I’m just getting started.

Paul spoke of his “unique message” about war as a last resort and his stance against the government’s collection of phone records. Paul believes he needs to be at the debates because he is the only candidate with these positions.

He also believes that he is the right candidate to appeal to Independent and younger voters.

Paul has been doing poorly in recent primary polls. A new poll released by NBC/WSJ Monday shows that Paul is at 3 percent. If today’s interview is any indication, he is not deterred.
